8 Questions to ask your Hair & Makeup Artist

We know that booking all of your vendors can seriously take up ALL of your time! As professional artists, we want you to be well prepared when you start making decisions on who you want to hire. Every artist is different, what works for us, might not work for another artist! We have compiled a list of the most important questions you should be asking while trying to find the perfect Makeup Artist & Hairstylist for your special day!

1. Do you have an online portfolio?

This is very important! You will want to see their work before booking anything. Pay close attention to their makeup & hair style, you want it to match the feeling you're going for. They should have images from weddings, photo-shoots or other film work so you can get an idea of what their makeup looks like on camera!

2. Do you bring a team?

If you have a larger bridal party, this might be a concern you have! We know that you don't want to wake up at 6 am for your 4 pm wedding. There are many artists out there that have teams that can come to get the job done in a timely manner!

3. Do you travel?

Some artists only work out of a studio, some only travel and some do both! You'll want to make sure that your artist is willing to come to you on the wedding day! You should also take note of their travel charge. Travel charges differ between each artist, so be sure to ask about that extra fee.

4. Do you offer Airbrush?

If you have a wedding outside and in the middle of summer, you should consider airbrush makeup. It is not for everyone, so consult with your artist if they offer it and would recommend it for you and your skin type!

5.Are lashes extra?

Some artists charge extra for lashes. They look killer in photos and we recommend them to every client. We want you to be prepared for any extra charges that might come up!

6. How do you collect payment?

You'll want to know the payment schedule and type of payments that your artist accepts! They will probably charge by hour or by service, some have a minimum that they require for wedding dates. This is important to note if you have a smaller wedding. Most charges do not include gratuity so keep that in mind for the day of the wedding if you super love your artist & want to treat them!

7. What style would you suggest for me?

Not everyone would be open to this but let us put it into perspective for you! Your artist should be well versed in the different bridal trends. Think of it as you asking your hairstylist for their suggestions for what type of haircut you should get! We've done this a time or two, we can offer you some suggestions that will help you feel your most beautiful on the special day. Of course you can do whichever style you prefer, but keep this in mind!

8. What is your favorite part of the job?

We think that you should bond with your artist, it will make your morning 10x better having someone there that feels like a friend. Learn a little bit more about your artist by asking them about what they love about their job! If they light up when they tell you, they probably seriously love their job and will be dedicated to making your wedding rock that much more.
