Up Your Makeup Game Today With These 5 Tips

Let's face it. We can all learn a thing or two from each other when it comes to makeup. There are so many little tips and tricks that you can do to help your makeup go on better, last longer, and just overall look better day-to-day! Today I wanted to chat with you about some of my favorite tips that I know can really change the way you apply your makeup and make you a rockstar!

1. Clean your makeup brushes at least once a week.

One of the best feelings is applying your makeup with some squeaky clean brushes! I'm telling you guys, they work 10x better when they are cleaned. Over time, our brushes can get caked up with all of the different products we use with them. This causes the brush to not work like its meant to. Who wants to spend more time blending?! I sure as hell don't! Not only does cleaning your brushes help them work better, but it can also help to stop the spread of bacteria on your face. More bacteria=more acne. You do the math!

2. Always apply powder over powder.

This may seem like a simple tip but it will help you so much with your makeup! When using a mixture of powder and cream products it is so important that you apply them in the right order. If not, you can get things like patchy areas, removal of the product underneath, clumpy products & more. You should always begin with cream and liquid products like your foundation and concealer. If you are then going to be using a powder blush, you should ALWAYS set your entire face with a translucent face powder. This is going to "set" your cream products down and remove the tackiness, making it easy to blend powders over top of the powder!

3. Don't be afraid of cream products.

For a long time, we were all a little obsessed with powder products. I don't know how we got here, but we did! I have recently fallen back in love with cream products. I know they can seem a bit daunting to use. You are probably afraid that they will get everywhere, be hard to blend, and take way too much time. Well, I am here to help friends. Cream products make it super easy to get that perfect blend of color because they melt right in with your foundation and other cream products. They are the best option for people that live hectic lives and need something that is quick and on the go. Try out some cream products and let me know what you think!

4. Use the right tools.

Have you ever tried to put together a piece of furniture without a screwdriver? Nope? Well, I have! And I can tell you for sure, you definitely need the right tool for the job, lol! Using the right tool can be the difference between having a perfect blend and struggling to get color even on your eyelid. There are natural hair brushes, synthetic brushes and they all come in different shapes and sizes. Sometimes it can be confusing to choose the right brush for the job. Check out one of our past blog posts here to understand brushes a bit more!

5. Know your face shape and skin type.

This is important people!! This is like 172 makeup tips in one, if you leave with nothing else, please leave with this tip. Knowing your face, eye and lip shape helps you to apply products and color in the right places to "fix" areas that you may want to. Makeup really is amazing, did you know that you can create an illusion with your makeup to make it appear like your eyes are lifted up? Or that you have amazing cheekbones? Or that you don't have a double chin?! This is all possible by knowing what your face shape is and learning how to work with what ya got.

Knowing your skin type is necessary for you to be able to choose the right products for what your skin can handle and need! If you have dryer skin, using too many powders can cause your face to look flaky and crusty. If you have oily skin, using too many cream products will create an oily mess all over your face. Getting to know the specifics about your routine is one of the most important things that I can teach people. There is no one size fits all when it comes to makeup. Every single person has different needs and wants and it's all about learning what works best for you and your routine!

Wasn't that easy?

Up-ing your makeup game doesn't have to be hard. Most of the time it is little switches that make the biggest difference in a makeup routine. I hope this helped you feel a little more confident when you put on your makeup tomorrow!

XOXO

Megan
